Evening Happens When Dusk Goes To Bed
Evening happens when Dusk goes to bed,
and Night has not quite
made his debut.
Evening is thoughtful; she always
(for Evening must be a woman)
always considers every possibility, unlike
Night,
who has made up his mind.
She exists singularly, potentially,
with all the power and joy of the unknown--
She never hurries to choose,
letting the decision play itself out
while her nails dry.
When you kiss Evening
You drown.
She promises everything
and gives away nothing.
Evening blinks slowly with long lashes
Believe her,
but do not trust her
She is ambivalent,
subtle and
mutable.
Let the long curve of Evening
make you long and swoon
but let her pass by
Do not follow her wake,
do not tread in her steps...
and Night has not quite
made his debut.
